A multi-shift strategy for NYE
This is Jay Cradeur with The Rideshare Guy and let me start off by sharing my strategy for driving on New Year’s Eve. I broke the day down into four parts. I did a morning shift and then I did an afternoon shift.

And right now it’s 4:40 in the afternoon. I’m going to start my third shift, which I’m going to from five until eight. Then I’m going to take a break, and then somewhere between 9:30 and 10, I’m going to go from 10 until one, and we’ll see how much money I can make.
Right now, what I want to do first is show you what happened in the first two morning shifts. All right, the first shift was from six to nine. I made $119. If you look at the specifics, I averaged 3.6 trips per hour and $43 per hour, so this was a really good start to the day.

Second shift was also good. I got up to $284. This shift I started at 10 o’clock. This shift averaged 3.5 trips per hour and $41 per hour. So overall, the morning shifts were really, really good.
So those were not bad numbers, and I’m close to $300 already, going into what should be some really good surge times. Right now I’m off to put gas in my car. It looks like I’ve only got 120 miles left, so once I fill my gas tank up, I should have about 400 miles, which should get me through the end.
Check out that sunset. Look at the sky. It’s really beautiful. So I just filled my car up with gas and I’m driving into The Mission. There’s no surge right now, but I’m hoping to catch people as they’re heading off to parties, heading off to dinner.
Hey there. So I just finished my third shift, which was from five until 8 p.m. There wasn’t much surge, and actually it wasn’t all that busy. But let’s go over those numbers now, and then after that, I’m going to now go out from nine until midnight, which should be really good. I’ve seen the surge now at 250%, so that should bode well for a good three-hour shift here.
After my morning shifts, I took a break and then I started around 5 o’clock. This shift was not very good. As you can see, I only made $72 in there hours. I only averaged $24 per hour. So, in the future, I would skip this shift altogether.
Now the day is over. It’s about 2:45. I did hit the $600. It wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. The surge only got to 500%, and that was only for about 15 minutes. It only surged from 1 o’clock in the morning, until about 2:15, so I’m happy I made $600.
My highest surge on NYE was 550%!
Before we look at the numbers, let me show you, the highest surge was at 1:20 at 550%. This was my longest, best-paying trip. I made $75 on about a 20-minute ride. This was a character named Giovanni. And as you can see here, the surge just completely died at 2:30. Now if you push it to 14 hours, Lyft cuts you off. I’ve never had this happen before, because I usually drive for both Lyft and Uber, but I’m deactivated with Uber, so that was the end of my night.
Results are in $623, 48 rides, and as you can see here, in the evening shift, I started around 10. I went until 2:30. I just couldn’t stop. I made $61 per hour in that evening shift, so that was totally money. And I could have driven more if I wanted to, but I just saw the surge had completely died. So, for the day, I averaged $44 per hour for 14 hours.
I worked with just a really great group of people, awesome customers. I had barf bags ready, but no one was even close to throwing up. Some people slept. I had a few people fall asleep. These are some selfies I took with some of my passengers who said it was okay to show their image.
